Hafsar is a registered social worker and the Co-Secretary General at Asia Pacific Refugee Rights Network [https://aprrn.org/]. Prior to this, Hafsar served as the chair of Asia Pacific Refugee Rights Network[APRRN] until February 2023. She is a Steering Committee Member of Asia Pacific Network of Refugees[ APNOR], a member of Global Refugee-Led Network[GRN], and an interim working group member of Global Movement of Statelessness, and served as an interim Advisory member of the UNHCR Advisory Group. Hafsar is also the co-founder and the director of diversity, equity and inclusion at the Rohingya Maìyafuìnor Collaborative Network which is a women-led, Rohingya-led and refugee-led organization working on Rohingya human rights issues, SGBV, education and translocal solidarity with a focus on women, peace and security.
While she was in Malaysia as a refugee, she had worked with refugee communities and INGOs on the prevention and response to SGBV[Sexual Gender-Based Violence] and child marriage in Malaysia for 8 years. Hafsar has been involved in different advocacy and activism spaces on statelessness, refugee rights, asylum seekers, detention of migrants and refugees, and prevention and response to sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) at regional, national and international levels for over a decade.
She has extensive knowledge on the range of SGBV issues faced by refugee women as well as of their experiences prior to leaving their country of origin and is a passionate advocate for improved prevention and response measures to SGBV, to promote and protect the rights of refugees, stateless people, asylum seekers and LGBTQ+communities in Asia Pacific Region and beyond.
