about us

Organisation's History

The Rohingya Maìyafuìnor Collaborative Network was established in response to the ongoing genocide and humanitarian crises faced by the Rohingya people in Myanmar and across Asia-Pacific region. Our founding members were once refugees, displaced without protection due to the violence and mass atrocities in Myanmar. We embarked on a mission to support and advocate for our community with our lived experience as refugees and a deep understanding of our community’s needs.

The organization’s history is rooted in a commitment to intersectionality, social justice, human rights, and community-centred principles . We began as a small, dedicated group of individuals who recognized the need to address the multifaceted challenges faced by the Rohingya, including systematic persecution, displacement, and lack of access to protection, basic rights and human security.

We have grown and expanded our reach, forming alliances with local and international partners, while remaining driven by the same passion and purpose that led to our inception. Today, our history is marked by a series of collaborative efforts, advocacy initiatives, and grassroots programs aimed at promoting the well-being and rights of the Rohingya people.

Our Core Values

Our Mission

a collective led by Rohingya women experts, to create better opportunities and rebuild Rohingya community

Advocacy for Rohingya Human Rights

We advocate for the protection and restoration of the rights of the Rohingya people—an indigenous community to Arakan (Rakhine state). Our efforts draw global attention to the plight of the Rohingya community enduring a genocide while responding to the challenges to shift away from Rohingya perception as passive recipients or burdens to active agents of change for their own future. The network aims to shift from the reductive social perception of refugees and asylum seekers while deepening transnational solidarity across the global struggles to freedom and human rights for all. Our activities include but are not limited to, working with all interlocutors and stakeholders such as international organizations, governments, national institutions, humanitarian groups, and civil society organizations, to demand for justice and holistic rehabilitation of the Rohingya community.

Preventing and Addressing Gender-Based Violence (SGBV)

As we recognize the disproportionate impact of Sexual and Gender Based Violence on Rohingya women and girls, we implement programs aimed at prevention and sustainable support while strengthening the agency of those impacted. Our initiatives encompass awareness campaigns, capacity building, educational access, and socio-economic inclusion to create safer environments for women and girls in displacement using intersectional and people-centred frameworks.

Education

We firmly believe in the transformative power of education. Our organization is dedicated to enhancing access to quality education for Rohingya children and adults, nurturing a brighter future for the community through advocacy for access to traditional means of education, vocational training and enhanced reinforcement of existing skill sets that Rohingya refugees already possess.

Translocal Solidarity

In an interconnected world, we actively build bridges of solidarity with marginalized and oppressed communities. We share experiences and strategies, fostering collective empowerment and social change. Our core values focus on creating harmony and strengthening solidarity across the domestic landscape of Burma/Myanmar as well as the Asia-Pacific Region.

Women, Peace, and Security

We place a particular emphasis on the vital role of women in promoting peace and security within the Rohingya community and beyond. Through leadership development and advocacy, we empower Rohingya women to become active agents of positive change.

These values inform and guide our daily efforts to make a positive and lasting difference in the lives of the Rohingya people and to uphold their universal inalienable human rights. As ASEAN is our home, Rohingya people have as much stake in the systemic change of the region as others, to be better equipped in the protection of vulnerable groups.
